The Egbesu Ijaws of Gbaramatu have strongly condemned the six-month suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, calling it unconstitutional and an act of provocation against the Ijaw Nation.

In a statement, the group accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of acting as a puppet to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, whom they blame for the political turmoil in Rivers State. They warned that the suspension of Fubara will not stand and vowed to resist it with all their might.

The Ijaw group described the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers as an abuse of power and a direct attack on their people. They stated that the federal government has “crossed the red line” and should prepare for the consequences.

The statement also warned of imminent disruptions to Nigeria’s oil production, threatening attacks on key oil facilities in the Niger Delta if their demands for Fubara’s reinstatement are not met.

They claimed that their struggle is not just about Fubara but about the political future of the Ijaw people, insisting that the federal government must respect their rights and aspirations.

The group further hinted at the possibility of declaring an independent Ijaw Republic if the federal government continues to suppress their people’s political rights.

They stressed that the Niger Delta remains the economic backbone of Nigeria and that any attempt to undermine the Ijaw people will be met with stiff resistance.

Urging the international community to take note of the unfolding crisis, the Egbesu Ijaws declared that any attack on the Ijaw people would be met with equal force.

They emphasized that anyone who tampers with oil infrastructure in the region would do so at their own risk.
