According to reports, the affected directors were initially reassigned to an arm of the bank called FSS 2020 under the Governor’s Directorate in Abuja on November 24, 2023. They were kept in a waiting period for “further directives” but are now being asked to leave the CBN.
Although the exact terms of their departure were not clearly stated, some of the directors received their disengagement letters on Friday. It remains unclear whether they were given early retirement or if their appointments were terminated outright.
Sources suggest that the main reason for their dismissal was their close association with the former CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele. However, it has not been confirmed if any of the affected directors were found guilty of any offenses.
This decision has caused concern among CBN staff, raising fears of possible further layoffs under the current management.
