The new rule, effective from 1 October 2025, follows a safety review which highlighted growing risks associated with lithium batteries in aviation.
Emirates said incidents across the sector had increased in line with rising use of power banks.
“Using any kind of power bank is prohibited onboard Emirates’ flights, effective from tomorrow,” the airline stated.
Emirates emphasised that its aircraft already provide in-seat charging ports for passengers, but it strongly advises customers to fully charge their devices before departure, especially on long-haul journeys.
The carrier explained that the measure is designed to minimise fire hazards linked to overheating or malfunctioning batteries, which have caused serious safety concerns for global airlines.
The Emirates power bank ban underscores the industry’s heightened caution over portable electronics and lithium-ion devices.
