According to Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, the State Director of NOA, organized syndicates are actively distributing counterfeit N1000 notes particularly in Udung Uko, Mbo, Oron, Okobo, and Ibeno Local Government Areas.
The fake currency, identified by batch numbers 364232 and 898248, is characterized by blurred portraits, irregular watermarks, and faulty security features, making it relatively easy to identify for the observant.
“These criminals exploit peak market hours to infiltrate POS operators and merchants with counterfeit notes,” Mkpoutom stated.
He described the act as not just fraudulent but unpatriotic and warned that such activities could distort the nation’s fragile economy.
