Since its launch on August 29, 2003, Globacom has grown into one of Africa’s telecom powerhouses, credited with pioneering innovations such as per-second billing and reducing SIM acquisition costs, which made mobile telephony more affordable to Nigerians.
In a message to subscribers, the company described its journey as “a story of resilience and strength,” stressing that customer trust had powered its success. “With every connection, you have fuelled our growth,” it stated.
Globacom said it has invested massively in infrastructure, including one of Africa’s largest fiber optic networks and the landmark Glo 1 submarine cable, the continent’s first privately owned undersea cable. This investment has boosted broadband capacity and strengthened Nigeria’s digital economy.
Beyond telecom services, the Globacom 22 years milestone highlights the company’s impact on sports, entertainment, education, and culture.
By promoting Nigerian and African talent globally, Glo has played a pivotal role in national development.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to a digitalized future, promising to continue expanding data services, adopting next-generation technologies, and creating platforms to power e-commerce, fintech, entertainment, and innovation.
