The announcement was made on Friday by Mr. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communication and Public Affairs Manager, Google West Africa.
Recognizing Nigeria’s rich tradition of storytelling and its youthful population including about 39 million children under six years old Google developed Storybook to provide engaging, accessible educational content tailored to young learners.
“Storytelling is fundamental to how we connect and learn,” Kola-Ogunlade explained. “Storybook acts like a creative partner, turning a photo of a child and their favorite toy into a 10-page illustrated tale or bringing a child’s drawing to life through narrative.”
The tool allows parents and educators to place children at the center of their own learning adventures, making education interactive and personal.
This is especially important in Nigeria’s vibrant cultural context, where stories have long been a way to pass down knowledge.
Google’s Storybook generates unique page-by-page illustrations accompanied by a narrator’s voice, providing a fresh way for families to engage in early education.
The tool can be used for various purposes, from explaining a parent’s job in a fun way to creating personalized gifts or educational stories about local culture.
Users can access Storybook for free via the Gemini app. Google’s tutorial video demonstrates how to prompt the chatbot to create storybooks on any topic, such as,
“Can you make a storybook for my 2 and 4 year old daughters explaining my career in the style of a colouring book?”
