The legendary musician, aged 95, died on Friday night at approximately 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, following a long battle with illness.
Ejeagha was renowned for his unique ability to transform traditional Igbo proverbs and folklore into captivating musical stories, earning him a revered status in Nigerian music history.
His influence spanned decades, with a distinct style that dominated the airwaves in the 1980s and inspired both his peers and younger generations.
His eldest son, Emma Ejeagha, confirmed the news in a phone conversation with press, stating:
“Papa lived a full life. His music was not just entertainment; it was education and culture woven into melody.”
Born in Enugu, Mike Ejeagha’s contribution to the preservation and promotion of Igbo culture through song earned him respect well beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Many of his works have been used in academic research and cultural documentation, reflecting his deep commitment to heritage.
