The African Aviation and Aerospace University has received overwhelming support from key stakeholders during a public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation Technology.

The hearing, held at the National Assembly, was convened to advance legislative efforts towards the formal establishment of the university in Abuja through an Act of Parliament.

Stakeholders from across the aviation and aerospace sectors—including representatives from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, and others—gathered to contribute valuable insights and recommendations to enrich the bill.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Ibrahim Kana, speaking on behalf of Minister Festus Keyamo, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to the project, underscoring the crucial role of legislative backing for its long-term success.

Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, Goni Aji, described the event as a “major step in institutionalising the university through legislative means,” signalling broad consensus on the university’s potential to pioneer specialised training and research in aviation and aerospace technologies within the region.

The Speaker of the House, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, through House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s dedication to fast-tracking the bill.

Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation Technology, Tajudeen Abiodun, concluded by thanking the attendees and promising “expedited attention to ensure timely passage” of the bill.

Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Aviation Technology, represented by Patrick Ndubueze, also pledged its support, assuring stakeholders of smooth concurrence once the bill arrives at the upper chamber.
