Members of Isale Eko Descendants Union have joined the multitude to celebrate as the Oba of Lagos, HRM Riliwanu Akiolu, clocked 78.

In a message made available to Freelanews and signed by the union’s chairman, Yomi Tokosi, it was noted that the referred monarch is a pillar of courage and generosity.

Tokosi also revealed that one of the qualities of Oba of Lagos that stands the monarch out is his openness.

“We, Isale Eko Descendants Union, heartily congratulate His Royal Majesty, Oba of Lagos, Alaiyeluwa Oba Riliwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu on his 78th Birthday.

“Kabiyesi, Oba Akiolu, Akiolu 1, was born on 29th October, 1943. An urbane and knowledgeable monarch, His Majesty is an alumnus of Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Surulere as well as a graduate of Law from the University of Lagos. He was an officer of the Nigeria Police Force for 32 years and rose to the position of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in 1999.He was crowned the 21st Oba of Lagos on 24th May, 2003 succeeding Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, who reigned from 1965-1st March, 2003, before joining his ancestors at the age of 91.

“Oba Akiolu is known for his generosity, frankness, and courage, hence his reign has impacted positively on the lives and well-being of the people of Isale Eko and its environs. He has also been in the forefront of the campaign to return properties belonging to indigenes of Lagos which are presently in the possession of the Federal Government.

“Oba Akiolu is very close to history and in fact has the history of Lagos, as well as its environs and people in his palm,” he wrote.

The chairman of the union then wished the king a long life and happy birthday.

“We therefore wish Kabiyesi, Alaiyeluwa Oba Akiolu, a memorable birthday. Ki Ade Pe Lori, Ki Bata Pe Lese,” Tokosi concluded.
