Nigerian activist Verydarkman criticises the launch of Dangote’s refinery, raising concerns about potential monopolisation and government concessions.
[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as Verydarkman, has expressed skepticism following the release of the first batch of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Aliko Dangote’s new refinery.
Located in Ibeju-Lekki, the refinery, with a 650,000 barrels-per-day capacity, was officially announced during a high-profile webcast on Tuesday, marking its transition from test runs to full production.
Despite the widespread acclaim for the refinery’s launch, Verydarkman has openly criticised the circumstances surrounding it. He questioned the sudden approval for Dangote’s refinery to produce petrol, especially given the previous disputes between the billionaire and the government.

His critique suggests that there might be covert government concessions and questionable political manoeuvres at play.
Furthermore, Verydarkman expressed concerns about the possibility of Dangote monopolising the oil sector, drawing parallels with his control over the cement industry and other markets. In a recent press conference, Dangote thanked the government for facilitating the refinery’s operations and assured that the facility would not only meet Nigeria’s fuel needs but also serve sub-Saharan Africa.
He also highlighted the refinery’s potential to enhance transparency and accountability in fuel consumption and distribution across the region.
