The Kaduna State Police Command has announced a ban on all forms of unlawful gatherings by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), including their planned Ashura procession.
ASP Mansir Hassan, spokesperson for the command, issued a statement on Sunday declaring the prohibition. The decision follows intelligence indicating IMN’s intention to hold a procession to mark the 2024 Islamic Ashura day ceremony.
Hassan emphasized the history of violence associated with such gatherings, citing past incidents of property destruction, injuries, and loss of lives. He reiterated that IMN, also known as Shi’ites, has been proscribed by law, and any attempt to organize such events is illegal.
The statement warned IMN members and others against violating the ban, stating that the police would enforce the law rigorously. Commissioner of Police Mr. Ali Dabigi reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining peace and urged law-abiding citizens to continue their activities without fear.
