When the self appointed Comedian of the Federal Republic (CFR) and now Grand Comedian of Nigeria (GCON) started off to engage in matters concerning laughter ten years ago, little did he know that the journey will be full of thrills and challenges.
Gbenga Adeyinka, a multi-award-winning and multi-talented Nigerian, after bagging a degree in English at the prestigious University of Lagos, started his career in an engineering firm as a corporate affairs manager.
When the Abeokuta-born young Gbenga met the likes of Akin Akindele and Tee A, he knew that he could do better by becoming an MC instead of a stand-up comedian.
It was during this period he started compering events due to his dexterity with the use of words combined with his fluency in several Nigerian languages.
Adeyinka paid his dues in the industry and virtually did all his shows for free, …or almost.
His big break came when luck smiled at him and he shined with Nigeria Breweries’ Star Game Show. The TV programme became a hit and Gbenga Adeyinka finally became generally accepted as a MC of repute.

A man of many parts, Adeyinka’s popularity goes beyond the borders of this country. He was the first stand-up comedian to have worked in Ghana with huge fan base.
So far, his exciting career has taken him to the UK, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa and to the whole 36 states of Nigeria.
Gbenga Adeyinka, on more than one occasion, has been described as the most versatile comedian in the business. He has the ability and sensibility to work a large crowd to frenzy.
In the past, he had compered corporate events, passed the brand message while making the crowd excited about it.
Brand Gbenga Adeyinka is the toast of governments and its parastatals. Unlike where a US politician just admitted he had an affair with Monica Lewinsky to relieve job pressure, Nigerian politicians relieve pressure of governance by having an affair with Gbenga Adeyinka, because he is reputable political and corporate stress reliever.
Gbenga Adeyinka went on to become a very popular brand, even more than any other offerings from the dexterous comedian. One of such is Laffmattazz magazine, the first Nigeria’s comedy magazine.
However, due to some circumstances, the magazine, which is no longer in circulation, has transformed into an annual event Nigerians look forward to.
Laffmattazz, now celebrating its tenth year, will be taking place in Ibadan, Oyo State come this year’s Easter Sunday. (Details in poster)
Success, they say, is intentional.
His journey to stardom didn’t come by chance. Adeyinka has been known to always position himself at the right place and at the right time.
The comedian of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was able to map out what he wanted out of life, and according to him, he worked and walked toward it.
