Lagos officially unveils Katangowa ICT Market as traders meet over gradual relocation of Computer Village from Ikeja to Abule Egba
The Lagos State Government has officially introduced the Katangowa ICT Market as the new home for the popular Computer Village, during a stakeholder meeting held today, Monday, at 10am, with traders and market leaders in attendance.

The meeting, convened by senior officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and representatives of the Lagos Urban Renewal Agency, was aimed at activating the gradual relocation of Computer Village from its current base in Ikeja to Katangowa, Abule Egba.
According to sources present at the meeting, government officials emphasised that the Katangowa ICT Market is part of a long-term infrastructure plan designed to reduce congestion in Ikeja, reclassify the area for residential use, and reposition Lagos as a technology and innovation hub.
The plan, which has been in motion since 2017, had seen little progress until renewed discussions earlier this year.
Now, with today’s stakeholder engagement, the government appears poised to kickstart the phased relocation process.
Traders at the meeting raised concerns over readiness at the Katangowa site, particularly regarding infrastructure, security, access roads, and potential disruption to their operations.
In response, government officials assured them that development at the ICT Park is being prioritised and that support mechanisms would be put in place to ensure minimal business interruption.

The Katangowa ICT Market, according to the government, is envisioned as a state-of-the-art technology and electronics hub, complete with modern stalls, digital payment infrastructure, broadband access, and improved logistics.
In a brief media chat after the meeting, an official familiar with the project reiterated the state’s commitment to “ensuring a seamless transition that supports both traders and consumers.”
He added that while Computer Village won’t be shut down overnight, its operations will gradually wind down as traders are incentivised to move to the new location.
The focus keyword, Katangowa ICT Market, reflects a strategic push by Lagos to centralise ICT trading in a purpose-built environment that aligns with urban development goals and enhances both trader and consumer experience.
As things stand, the relocation remains in its early activation stage, but with the government now officially unveiling the Katangowa project and engaging stakeholders directly, the process is now visibly underway.

Further consultations are expected in the coming weeks, with infrastructure work reportedly resuming at the new site to support the planned market migration.
