The D), owned by Aliko Dangote, has constructed the first-ever and longest concrete highway to connect southern and northern Nigeria.

Amid accolades from prominent engineers, the massive road which links Obajana and Kabba has been praised by many motorists who have said the strategic highway has aided the smooth conveyance of travellers between both regions.

Among those who are delighted about the development is Olatunbosun Kalejaiye, the project director, who noted that this is one of the DIL’s corporate social responsibilities.

Also, the site engineer Samuel Obosi, assured Nigerians that the dual carriageway will not only be durable, but it will also be less prone to damages compared to what is obtainable with asphalt roads.

More importantly, Obosi pointed out that it will drastically reduce the rate of deaths caused by accidents in the country.

Meanwhile, the federal government had announced that the Third Mainland Bridge would be reopened at midnight of Monday, December 28, 2020.

This was specifically revealed on Sunday, December 27, by the federal controller of works in Lagos, Olukayode Popoola.

Popoola told newsmen that this was possible because the contractor was able to finish the task within a space of two days faster than the usual 72-hour timeframe initially stipulated.

He said:

“We have completed the casting of the three number expansion joints on Third Mainland bridge.

“Therefore, the bridge shall be opened at 12:00 midnight Sunday 27th December, and no longer Monday 28th December. That is 48 hours and no more 72 hours.”

Earlier, it was reported that with effect from Saturday, December 26, the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos would be closed to allow for expansion constructions.
