An Ekiti auto dealer tracked down a fraudster in a $19,000 scam using clever tactics and teamwork, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]n auto dealer and mechanic in Ekiti State, known as Sango Olukoso on X (formerly Twitter), has narrated the captivating story of how he and his team tracked down and apprehended a fraudster involved in a $19,000 scam.
The incident began when a man named Mohammed allegedly received $19,000 to exchange for naira but disappeared after the transaction.
The aggrieved party, desperate to recover their money, contacted Sango Olukoso and his team for help.
Sango’s team started their investigation by attempting to trace Mohammed through his known phone number, but it turned out to be a secondary line.
The team switched strategies, targeting Mohammed’s close associates to gather critical information.
A breakthrough came when they located Mohammed’s alleged girlfriend.
While the team emphasised that they do not arrest “soft targets” unnecessarily, they were able to obtain Mohammed’s primary phone number from her after some questioning.
The team contacted Mohammed using his main number, but he arrogantly dismissed their efforts, even insulting military personnel involved in the operation.
Realising that Mohammed was constantly on the move to evade capture, the team intensified their search.
By tracing connections to one of Mohammed’s associates, they discovered his mechanic’s number and visited the workshop where Mohammed’s car was undergoing maintenance.
To ensure the suspect could not be tipped off, they confiscated the mechanic’s phone and deployed plainclothes officers to blend in with the environment.
Later that day, Mohammed arrived at the workshop, unaware of the trap awaiting him. He was promptly arrested and taken into custody.
Sango confirmed that the suspect would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
“Job done,” Sango concluded in his X thread, expressing satisfaction at the successful operation.
