United entered the match under pressure after a poor run that included a damaging home defeat to Everton and a frustrating draw with West Ham.
Sixth-placed United needed a strong response, and they delivered one with power and precision as they moved within one point of the Premier League top four.
Fernandes opened the scoring in the 25th minute after seizing on a misplaced back-pass from André.
His initial slip did not stop him from prodding a weak shot beyond Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, whose error sent boos across the home stands.
Wolves struck back in first-half stoppage time when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde finished from 12 yards after United failed to clear repeated crosses.
The equaliser marked Wolves’ first league goal since October, ending a six-match drought.
United responded perfectly after the interval. A flowing attack in the 51st minute saw Mason Mount release Diogo Dalot, who squared for Bryan Mbeumo to tap into an empty net.
Mount then added his own goal in the 62nd minute with an emphatic close-range volley from a Fernandes cross.
Fernandes sealed the win with an 82nd-minute penalty after Yerson Mosquera handled in the area, marking his fourth league goal of the season.
The defeat deepened Wolves’ crisis. Rob Edwards, still seeking his first victory since replacing Vitor Pereira, watched his side fall to an eighth straight league loss.
Wolves remain bottom on two points after 15 games, a run that threatens Premier League records for the longest winless start and the lowest points total.
The match unfolded amid tension, with hundreds of Wolves supporters staging a 15-minute boycott in protest against owners Fosun and chairman Jeff Shi. Their return brought little relief as United controlled the contest with authority.
