Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has admitted that his side fully deserved their 1-0 defeat to Everton in Monday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Speaking after the match, Amorim said the Red Devils failed to match Everton’s intensity and quality, despite enjoying a numerical advantage for more than 70 minutes following Idrissa Gueye’s dismissal for striking teammate Michael Keane.
“They were the better team. We deserved to lose,” Amorim told reporters. “Twenty minutes in the game, red card for the opponent. We need to win this game no matter what.”
The manager added that the team had not reached the level expected of a club of Manchester United’s stature, pointing to inconsistency over the past five weeks despite praise for their supposed evolution.
“Old Trafford was there saying ‘we are all here to give a big step up’ and I felt that we were not ready,” he said.
Manchester United invested £250 million in the summer transfer window in an attempt to lift the squad after a disastrous campaign that saw them finish 15th last season.
However, the team currently sits 10th in the Premier League table, in a tight cluster with Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool, three points shy of the top four.

The defeat marks another challenge for Amorim as he seeks to integrate new signings and establish consistency in the side’s performances ahead of a congested fixture schedule.
