‘Many dead’ Police confirms rival groups clash in Oyo

The Oyo State Police command has confirmed the clash that occurred between some youths in Ibadan.

Recall that a clash that broke out between some youths in Opopo Yeosa, Abebi and Inanlende areas in Ibadan resulted in the death of no fewer than six people.

The clash started around 4.pm on Thursday and snowballed till the early hours of Friday.

Many people were reportedly killed while many were also injured.

While a resident of Opopo Yeosa said that six people were killed, a resident of Inalende however said that twelve people were killed.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Adewale Osifeso, in a statement made available to Freelanews on Friday, said that additional police officers have been deployed to the troubled areas.

He, however, said that investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the number of casualties.

“The story is true. Investigations are ongoing to establish the number of casualties and circumstances that led to the incident.

“Meanwhile, additional operatives have been deployed to the scene to maintain law and order.

“You would be updated in due course, please.”
