NFF pledges solidarity payment to national league

The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has announced that there would be a solidarity payment to the Nigerian National League from FIFA support funds and sponsorship money to boost the league.

The NFF boss disclosed this yesterday while speaking to organised media during a zoom call, assuring that the football governing body would help the league out of its predicament.

The NNL has been in a state of limbo for over five months, having experienced three delayed resumptions already.

He said the protocols are being put in place to oversee the gradual return of football in the country, assuring that all leagues would kick off simultaneously once it’s safe to do so.

“What I can assure is that once we get the green light from the federal government to get going with football, we will ensure that the NNL and the other leagues will also get going alongside the NPFL. The football committee will present its report by next week and we are also planning to boost the leagues with solidarity funds from FIFA and from sponsorship funds,” he said.

The Delta born football administrator, also declared that henceforth, age-grade teams will be able to go home with the entire cash pot from their appearance at FIFA World Cup tournaments.

He said he would submit a proposal to the NFF executive committee to that effect, and would equally interface with Nigeria’s minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare on the proposition.

Pinnick also stated in the call that Gernot Rohr’s AFCON and World Cup targets are not set in stone, suggesting that if improvements were seen, decisions on how to move on will be made.
