over 650 NNPP supporters join APC, hail Tinubu’s leadership

Over 650 NNPP members in Kano defect to the APC, praising President Tinubu’s leadership and the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda

No fewer than 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a major political shift across parts of Kano State.

The mass defection, which took place on Thursday in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, and parts of Fagge and Ungoggo LGAs, was confirmed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The defectors, who arrived in clusters under various leadership groups, were officially received by Rabiu Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority.

While welcoming the new members, Bichi cited President Bola Tinubu’s visionary leadership and the APC’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and democratic dividends as key reasons the party continues to attract new supporters.

He highlighted the success of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes the students’ loan scheme, agricultural reforms, and empowerment programmes for youths and women.

Bichi also revealed that his agency is working with the Bank of Agriculture to provide soft loans to farmers across the state in a bid to boost food security.

“You are all equal members of the APC now. The party belongs to everyone, and together we will continue building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Ahmad Gobirawa said their decision to join the APC was inspired by the “visible progress” recorded by President Tinubu in less than two years in office.

He expressed optimism that the move would strengthen the APC’s political base in Kano and contribute to the party’s growth across the North-West region.

“We have seen the difference in leadership and direction. The APC is a party that delivers, and we want to be part of that success,” Gobirawa said.

The event, which drew party stalwarts, community leaders, and youth groups, was described as a major political win for the APC.

Analysts say it reflects the party’s revived grassroots mobilisation strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers note that the APC’s ability to attract large numbers of defectors from opposition parties like the NNPP reinforces its growing dominance in Kano’s volatile political landscape.
