North West University expels 41 students and rusticates 18 for involvement in examination malpractice during the first semester of 2023/2024.
[dropcap]N[/dropcap]orth West University, Kano, has expelled 41 students and rusticated 18 others following their involvement in examination malpractices during the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.
The decision was made by the university’s Senate at its 56th regular meeting on December 30, 2024, after carefully reviewing the recommendations of the Central Examination Misconduct Committee.

The university confirmed the expulsion and rustication in a circular issued on January 3, 2025, which was signed by Jafaru Sule Muhammad, Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records, on behalf of the Registrar.
The circular detailed the students’ violations of the university’s examination policies, which led to the disciplinary action.
In addition to the expulsions and rustications, the university also issued written warnings to 42 other students found guilty of minor involvement in the malpractice.
Two students were cleared of all charges and exonerated following the investigation.
The implicated students hailed from various faculties, including Basic Medical Science, Science, Computing, Education, Social and Management Sciences, and Humanities.
The university’s stringent stance on academic integrity reflects its commitment to maintaining a high standard of education and ensuring that all students adhere to the established rules and regulations.
This move serves as a reminder of North West University’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, reinforcing the importance of academic honesty across its campuses.
