While the Lagos state government has been exposed to public bashing over a leaked letter from Lagos State Government Public Procurement Agency to facilitate mass burial for the 103 2020 ENDSARS victims, a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has stated that the state government’s response to the leak confirmed that lives were indeed lost.

Ezekwesili, who has been vociferous on issues concerning Lagos State lately, expressed her displeasure over what she termed as contrived response from Sanwo-Olu led-administration three years after the incident.

Meanwhile, the government had claimed that the victims being referenced in the leaked letter were not bodies from Lekki tollgate, where it was alleged that the Nigerian army shot indiscriminately at protesters. It explained that the bodies were of those picked up aftermath of #EndSARS violence and community clashes at Fagba, Ketu, Ikorodu, Orile, Ajegunle, Abule-Egba, Ikeja, Ojota, Ekoro, Ogba, Isolo and Ajah areas of Lagos State, including a jailbreak at Ikoyi Prison.

“The 103 casualties mentioned in the document were from these incidents and NOT from Lekki Toll-gate as being alleged. For the avoidance of doubt, no body was retrieved from the Lekki Toll Gate incident,” the statement read in part.

However, Ezekwesili insisted this cannot be the end of this saga, while demanding full accountability from those concerned. Read her full response below.

“At least the @followlasg finally has a response for the public on this troubling confirmation that 103 citizens were killed during the #EndSARSMassacre.

“But, what manner of contrived response is this? Why this level of disrespect for the dignity of the lives of the people you voluntarily sought power to govern?

“How come it took the leak of @followlasg internal document titled Mass Burial of EndSARS victims for the @jidesanwoolu government to contrive this explanation on victims of that tragedy?

“This egregious response also comes almost 3 years since all reasonable citizens demanded @jidesanwoolu and @NigeriaGov @NGRPresident @MBuhari @PoliceNG and @HQNigerianArmy to account for all that happened to citizens in the #EndSARSMassacre?

“This cannot be the end of this saga. There is serious accountability required from our State and Federal Governments on #EndSARS and the CoViD19 palliativeGate. ✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾,” she wrote.
