Senator Gbenga Daniel says Ogun State halted federal road works, risking loss of December 2025 funding
Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East and former Governor of Ogun State, on Sunday accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of issuing an obstructive road order that threatens federal rehabilitation works in Ijebu North.
Senator Daniel made the claim during the Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of the BATOGD Movement, where he addressed traditional rulers, party leaders and residents.
Senator Daniel said the Ogun State Government had blocked rehabilitation of the Itanrin and General Hospital roads facilitated through federal agencies under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Senator Daniel stated that the role of a National Assembly member was to facilitate projects, while federal agencies executed them.
According to him, the stoppage arose from the false belief that the contractors were working for him personally.
Senator Daniel warned that if the stop work order remained in place beyond December 2025, the federal allocation for the project would be returned to the treasury.
He added that this risked depriving Ijebu North of vital infrastructure and could deter future federal interventions. He described the obstruction as politically motivated and harmful to the community.
The senator alleged that governance in the state had become restricted to what he described as a three man circle that rejected broader consultation.
He said this environment had resulted in punitive actions such as demolition threats and exclusion of community leaders who held opposing views. He described this climate as regressive and called for a return to inclusive administration.
Senator Daniel appealed passionately to traditional rulers and senior stakeholders to intervene and urge the Governor to allow the road project to proceed.
He said there were many state controlled roads requiring attention and argued that frustration of federal work over political disagreements was unnecessary and damaging.
In defending his record, Senator Daniel highlighted past achievements such as establishing the Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic in Ijebu Igbo, strengthening the multi campus structure of Olabisi Onabanjo University and delivering community based projects during his tenure as Governor.
He also listed recent interventions including solar street lights, motorised boreholes and a bill for a Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode. He said these showed his consistent commitment to development.
The Senator reaffirmed that the BATOGD Movement remained dedicated to the progress of Ogun East and to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the group would not be distracted by what he termed political persecution and would continue to pursue public interest projects with resilience.
