INEC warns political parties ahead of Anambra election, cautioning against vote buying, intimidation, and any act capable of disrupting the polls

In a statement posted Friday on its official X handle, the Independent National Electoral Commission outlined prohibited actions at polling units, warning that offenders would face prosecution.

The Commission stressed that no political party or candidate is allowed to canvass for votes or attempt to influence voters on election day.

“No candidate shall canvass for votes, solicit for the vote of any voter, or shout slogans concerning the election,” INEC declared.

INEC also warned against intimidation and the use of violence, directing that no contestant or supporter should possess offensive weapons or wear attire intended to threaten voters.

It further prohibited the display of party symbols, campaign materials, or vehicles marked with party colours near polling venues.

Voters were urged to maintain order, cast their ballots peacefully, and leave the polling area immediately afterward.

“No contestant, supporter, or voter should loiter after voting or destroy election materials,” the Commission added.

Meanwhile, INEC confirmed the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials to all 21 local government areas from the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Awka under tight security.

Saturday’s election will take place across 5,718 polling units, with 16 political parties, including two female candidates, contesting.

Over 2.7 million registered voters are expected to participate in what observers describe as a crucial test of Nigeria’s democratic resilience and INEC’s commitment to credible polls.
