Ogun APC’s shameful descent into Facebook politics exposes a disturbing collapse of internal democracy as Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s suspension fuels outrage
It is both laughable and disgraceful that the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has allowed itself to be reduced to Governor Dapo Abiodun’s personal tool for silencing respected and loyal party men.
In what sane society is the suspension of a sitting senator reduced to a Facebook publication, rather than proper party communication backed by transparency and credibility? Who did Ogun State politics like this?
The so-called ratification of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin’s suspension is nothing but a desperate witch-hunt, dressed up in the garb of “discipline.”
The speed and manner with which the party’s State Working Committee hurriedly rubber-stamped the decision, without due consultation or fair hearing, exposes one truth: the APC in Ogun has abandoned internal democracy and is now dancing to the drumbeat of one man.
This entire charade raises disturbing questions: Since when did a ward-level “disciplinary committee” become more powerful than the people who elected these leaders?
Why does Ogun APC treat its most loyal and accomplished members like outcasts, while rewarding sycophancy and blind allegiance to the governor? If Gbenga Daniel — a former governor, senator, and stabilizer of the party in Ogun — can be treated this way, who is safe?
The attempt to humiliate distinguished party stalwarts on social media not only weakens the APC but ridicules Ogun State in the eyes of Nigerians.
A ruling party should be a platform for unity, not a playground for petty vendettas. Sadly, under Dapo Abiodun, Ogun APC is sliding into authoritarianism, where loyalty to the governor is valued above loyalty to the party, its constitution, or the people.
The truth is simple: no amount of Facebook proclamations or stage-managed suspensions can erase Gbenga Daniel’s contributions or silence his voice.
If Ogun APC continues down this path, it risks self-destruction — and history will not forgive those who allowed one man’s insecurity to destroy a great party.
