Authorities from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Naperville Police Department announced on Thursday that the remains were discovered around 1:55 p.m. near 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive.
Officers responding to a call were led through tall grass to the body.
Police confirmed that the clothing on the deceased matched what Abosede was last seen wearing on the day she disappeared.
Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres expressed his condolences, saying:
*“While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.
We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincere condolences to the Abosede family during this difficult time.”*
The 42-year-old mother was last seen leaving her home near Springbrook Golf Course for a walk on the morning of July 30.
Surveillance footage later confirmed her movements, showing her dressed in a black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs.
Her husband, Gbenga Abosede, reported her missing, and extensive search efforts were carried out by volunteers, canine teams, and law enforcement across the preserve.
Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson also offered sympathy, stating:
“Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Authorities said they do not suspect foul play. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. The investigation is being jointly handled by forest preserve police and Naperville police.
