ICYMI, Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang both showed up wearing the same style of Met Gala dress to last night’s star-studded event. And it appears as though they’re having a v fun time with it! Earlier today, the Vogue China editor reposted and commented on Olivia’s Instagram Story, which featured a side-by-side pic of herself, the Don’t Worry Darling director, and the original 1983 design Karl Lagerfeld crafted while he helmed at Chloé that inspired both looks.

“Great minds,” Olivia wrote on her post. “If you’re gonna twin with anyone, make it @margaretzhang.” Margaret’s response? “CUE THE STRINGS.”
And JFYI in case ya wanted a little bit more backstory on Olivia’s ’fit—with design details courtesy of Vogue—turns out, it was actually designed by Chloé’s current designer Gabriela Hearst, who said, “What I loved about the original design was the musical inspiration of it and the surrealistic touch on it.”
“There was something quite timeless that we could bring back to the Met Gala in 2023. We made it a gala dress instead of a cocktail dress, and I think it worked beautifully,” she continued, explaining why she made the choice to alter the original cocktail dress’s length.
Despite both celebs taking a cue from Lagerfeld’s 1983 design, they each made it their own and looked beyond chef’s kiss walking the steps of the museum.
