Speaking during a recent episode of the Nando Leaks podcast, Omah Lay said his personal disposition has shaped how he navigates friendships, noting that he keeps a deliberately small circle.
The singer explained that his personality makes it difficult to connect broadly with people, as he does not seek validation from others and prefers relationships with individuals who genuinely understand his perspective and ambitions.
“I have a very weird personality, I believe I am just that guy, so I don’t have a lot of friends,” Omah Lay said.
“I don’t talk to a lot of people, just very few people and those people are people who try to come into my world and understand where I am going.”
Expanding on the industry environment, the artist described the Nigerian music scene as intensely competitive, with inflated self-perceptions often complicating personal connections.
He admitted that, despite his calm public persona, he also carries what he termed a “large ego”.
“The Nigerian music scene is full of egos. I am a chill guy but I have too much ego. It is hard to make friends like that,” Omah Lay added.
In a reflective moment, the singer acknowledged the potential downside of such traits, noting that unchecked ego can become a powerful barrier to growth.
He said he consciously makes efforts to remain grounded, recognising that humility can be essential to long-term progress.
