The crash, which occurred around 8:20am, involved a trailer carrying a container and a tricycle, locally known as a Keke.
According to witnesses, the trailer lost control while navigating a particularly bad stretch of road.
The container it was conveying suddenly fell off and landed directly on the tricycle, which was carrying four passengers.
Two of those aboard the tricycle were trapped beneath the container and later pronounced dead, while the other two managed to escape without injury.
Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives in the incident.
She urged all road users to exercise greater caution and comply with traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
“The FRSC rescue team responded swiftly to the distress call, working alongside the police to secure the scene and maintain traffic flow,” she said.
Neither the tricycle nor the trailer involved bore registration numbers or identifying marks, complicating the investigation.
