The Osun APC Crisis Deepens as Senator Basiru Slams Party Chieftainss for launching attacks on President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke, calling their actions disgraceful and divisive

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]sun APC crisis has intensified following a blistering condemnation by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator (Dr) Ajibola Basiru, who lashed out at key figures within the state chapter for launching what he described as “shameful and uncivilised” attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

In a strongly worded statement, Senator Basiru took aim at the former Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye; ex-Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Ismail Omipidan; and former Finance Commissioner, Bola Oyebamiji, labelling them “political toddlers” lacking both political maturity and national relevance.

“It is sad that these so-called leaders, in their desperation to gain attention, have reduced the image of Osun APC to a laughing stock nationwide,” said Basiru.

“What level of desperation will make anyone question the constitutional and moral right of President Tinubu to welcome any Nigerian, irrespective of party or region?”

Senator Basiru further cautioned the trio to begin “using Ori pipe” – a Yoruba expression meaning to apply wisdom – warning that their utterances risk further damaging the fragile unity of the party.

He accused them of insulting the presidency and called for a return to “basic political responsibility and loyalty.”

Mocking their unfulfilled political ambitions, Basiru stated that none of the trio could survive a genuinely competitive APC primary.

It is sad that these so-called leaders, in their desperation to gain attention, have reduced the image of Osun APC to a laughing stock nationwide.

“These local champions think they can bamboozle their way to the governorship ticket in 2026. Let it be known: the APC is not a daycare centre for entitled apprentices. You cannot insult the President today and expect to ride on his name tomorrow.”

Turning his ire specifically toward Hon. Owoeye, Basiru urged the former Speaker to desist from “senseless commentaries” that, in his words, only reduce the party to ridicule.

The internal rift has exposed deep fractures within the Osun APC, which now appears split between factions loyal to Senator Basiru and the national leadership, and those aligned with former Governor Oyetola, Baba Bisi Akande, and Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

Observers say the situation presents a clear and present threat to the APC’s cohesion ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race in Osun.

“The Presidency must take a hard look at the damage being done in Osun,” one insider noted. “If this is the face of the party’s future, then it’s walking toward political irrelevance.”
