The $20 billion refinery, considered the 8th Wonder of the World by Otedola, marks a significant industrial milestone and underscores the visionary leadership and relentless pursuit of excellence by Dangote.
Otedola expressed his familiarity with the decade-long journey of conceptualizing and bringing this colossal vision to reality, acknowledging the sleepless nights endured by Dangote in the process.
The Petrochemical Complex comprises the world’s largest single-train petroleum refinery, a polypropylene facility with a 1 million metric tonnes annual capacity, and two of the world’s largest fertilizer trains, capable of producing 3 million tonnes of urea.
Beyond being a symbol of industrial achievement, the refinery holds immense promise for millions of Nigerians and Africans. Notably, the complex incorporates advanced technologies for environmental sustainability. Carbon capture processes are set to capture over 90% of emitted CO2, contributing significantly to reducing well-to-tank carbon emissions from crude oil maritime transportation.
This aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
The refinery’s eco-friendly initiatives extend to water recirculation, with 100% water recycling, and the capture of process heat to generate 50MW of power.
Dangote is also pioneering the production of Euro 5 standards to replace outdated Euro 5 products prevalent in Africa, contributing to environmental preservation.
The economic impact of the refinery is expected to be substantial, meeting the nation’s requirements for refined petroleum products, enhancing energy security, and fostering economic transformation for present and future generations.
Otedola concludes his congratulatory message by affirming that Africa is proud of Aliko Dangote’s remarkable achievement.
