Otunba Gbenga Daniel announces plans to revive the Bitumen Project in Ijebu East, aligning with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for industrial transformation.
Bitumen Project is set for revival as Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel pledged renewed development efforts in Ijebu East under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during the BATOGD Midterm Community Assessment and Review (MIDCAR) Tour in Ijebu East Local Government, Senator Daniel reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the area’s economic fortunes through the long-abandoned Bitumen exploration project.
He explained that the tour was designed to assess government performance, gather feedback, and engage directly with constituents across Ogun East.
According to him, the initiative reflects a new model of governance driven by transparency, accountability, and grassroots connection.
Daniel recalled that during his tenure as governor, Ogun East was identified as having the largest deposit of Bitumen in Nigeria, which his administration had planned to harness for industrial development and job creation.
He lamented that the project was later abandoned, resulting in lost opportunities for the region.
However, the Senator disclosed that renewed discussions with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, led by Dele Alake, have brought positive assurances that the project would soon resume under Tinubu’s economic reform policy.
“The ministry has assured that the bitumen wealth of Ijebu East will soon be put to productive use. I have every confidence in that assurance because Dele Alake is a man of results,” he said.
Daniel further highlighted Tinubu’s remarkable performance in the solid minerals sector, noting that revenue had grown from ₦6 billion to ₦38 billion within a year, following reforms that promote local processing and industrial value addition.
He described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a “practical demonstration of reform, innovation, and inclusive growth,” stressing that his representation in the Senate would continue to focus on empowering communities through practical interventions.
The senator listed several constituency projects, including a solar-powered borehole in Igbaga, Ijebu-Imushin, multiple empowerment initiatives, and free medical outreach that has benefitted over 4,000 residents across Ogun East.
Daniel reiterated his commitment to transforming Ijebu East into a beacon of development through industrialisation, job creation, and sustainable growth.

He concluded by assuring residents that the revival of the bitumen project would usher in a new era of prosperity for both the current and future generations.
