The media office of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Ogun State and current senator representing Ogun East, has responded to the ongoing arbitration and legal issues concerning the Ogun/Guangdong Free Trade Zone. This follows numerous inquiries seeking his reaction to the matter.

The statement clarified that Otunba Daniel, or his administration, is not involved in discussions surrounding the court cases and arbitration concerning the termination of the management contract at the Free Trade Zone.

The focus of the legal matter is the contract’s termination, and the courts have issued clear judgments on the issue.

It emphasized that the matter is sensitive, involving national assets that every patriotic Nigerian should be concerned about. As a dedicated elder statesman and former governor who contributed significantly to Ogun State’s development, including establishing the Free Trade Zone, Otunba Daniel has chosen a patriotic path.

Rather than making media comments, Senator Daniel has decided to assist President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in finding a diplomatic resolution to the issue.

The statement highlighted that such efforts are better conducted privately to avoid compromising Nigeria’s position in court.

According to the senator, the Ogun/Guangdong Free Trade Zone remains operational, with many Nigerians and companies continuing their legitimate activities there.

“At the time of Otunba Daniel’s handover in 2011, around 56 companies were at various stages of operation and development within the Zone, contributing to significant local community advancements, including road construction, educational initiatives, and scholarships.”

The statement urged the media to support the Nigerian government in finding a productive solution to the issue, stressing the importance of preserving the nation’s assets and integrity rather than politicizing the matter.

The office appreciated those who reached out for his perspective and requested understanding regarding his silence.
