Pastor Enoch Adeboye has revealed that God warned him his firstborn would die if he left RCCG, urging believers to stay where God has planted them

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]astor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed that God warned him of dire consequences if he ever left the church.

Speaking during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)”, Adeboye disclosed that he received a divine warning that his firstborn would die should he exit the denomination.

The event, held at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State, took place in the early hours of Saturday, 7 June.

The revered cleric shared the revelation while speaking on the importance of divine direction and spiritual consistency, referencing a sermon earlier delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye.

“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” Pastor Adeboye recounted.

“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die,’” he added solemnly.

At the time, the RCCG was a relatively obscure ministry, with its headquarters located in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Despite offers to join other thriving ministries, Pastor Adeboye remained steadfast in following God’s instruction.

He further explained that although he was a university lecturer, God asked him to submit under the leadership of his spiritual father, who had no formal education.

“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he said.

Pastor Adeboye used the moment to caution young Christians against “church hopping”, noting that many believers today frequently introduce themselves as first-time visitors in new congregations.

“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he urged the congregation, particularly the youth.

He, however, clarified that his testimony was not a comparison or declaration of superiority over other Christian denominations.

“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he stated.
