Morris Monye alleges APC’s early campaign and PDP defections, including Delta governors, reveal fear, not strength, ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 polls
[dropcap]P[/dropcap]olitical commentator and “Obidient” movement member, Morris Monye, has ignited debate on X (formerly Twitter) by asserting that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s early and intense campaign activities, coupled with a wave of high-profile defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), are signs of underlying fear ahead of the 2027 elections.

Monye pointed to the widespread display of Bola Ahmed Tinubu posters, the activation of online influencers, and, crucially, the recent defections of prominent PDP figures as evidence of this perceived apprehension.
The recent surge in defections, including former and present Delta State governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Sheriff Oborevwori, respectively, and several members of the House of Representatives, has fuelled speculation about the political landscape.
The commentary generated significant engagement on X, with users expressing a range of opinions. Some echoed Monye’s sentiments, emphasising the need for a united and effective opposition.
“APC have started campaigning. BAT posters everywhere, influencers activated, decamping of sitting governors activated… I can’t emphasize how much we need to keep on mobilizing and building,” Monye wrote.
“If it’s easy to rig, APC won’t be putting in this sort of effort. Bola Tinubu is beatable.”
One user commented, “Like I’ve always said, Nigerians are the ones voting APC enough for them to be able to rig, the only way to kick out APC at the moment is if Nigerians work against them and the opposition is solid enough with reach everywhere.”
Others expressed skepticism about the opposition’s readiness, with one user stating, “The issue is the soo called Oppositions are not ready… And the citizens can easily smell, the opposition trying to take advantage of the people’s vote against a present bad govt. The citizens are also calculating not to make mistakes of voting double wahala for themselves.”

A more pessimistic view was also presented, with comments such as, “BAT might have all the governors in his pocket ahead of 2027, Which is already happening. At this point, Only Nigerians will save Nigeria. Forget election.”
