Reno Omokri has criticised Peter Obi for allegedly condemning insecurity selectively, claiming the politician addresses issues based on political and regional bias.
Omokri accused Obi of failing to acknowledge the 30-day lockdown in Southeast states declared by IPOB, despite frequently condemning incidents in other regions.
Omokri pointed out that while Obi lamented the abduction of medical students in Benue and criticised Lagos State for demolishing part of Landmark Beach Resort, he remained silent on the Southeast lockdown.
Omokri also noted that Obi called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu in June 2024 but ignored the insecurity in Igbo land.
Omokri further claimed that Peter Obi weaponises and tribalises insecurity, selectively commenting on issues based on regional affiliations.
He asserted that Obi’s selective condemnations contribute to the weaponisation of insecurity in Nigeria when he wrote:
It is quite sad, although not surprising, that Peter Obi has not even acknowledged, much less condemned, the 30-day lockdown in the five states of the Southeast declared by IPOB. Yet, this is a man who was lamenting the state of insecurity in Benue last week after some medical students were abducted.
And when Lagos State lawfully demolished part of Landmark Beach Resort, Peter Obi condemned it. And when there were reports, which later turned out to be false, that Lagos was deporting indigent citizens of Osun back to their state, Peter Obi berated Lagos State. This is the same Peter Obi who called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu on June 30, 2024.
Indeed, what Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said today about insecurity being weaponised in Nigeria is very accurate, and Peter Obi is the chief culprit. Not only does he weaponise it. He also tribalises and trivialises it.
If insecurity breaches happen in Igbo land, Peter Obi will cover it and refuse to comment. But if it occurs in the North or Southwest, you can count on him to get a megaphone and condemn it.
Nigerians, am I lying?
