The tragic incident took place on 20 June 2025 when a mob attacked a 32-seater bus from Kaduna State, killing 13 passengers and injuring others.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed the swift intervention of officers at the scene. “Our men, in collaboration with other security agencies, successfully dispersed the mob and rescued 21 victims,” he said during a press briefing in Jos.
The victims, who were en route to Kwa village in Qua’anpan LGA for a wedding, had lost their way and were attacked near Mangun market square. The bus bore an “Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria” inscription.
Following the attack, Adesina ordered the deployment of tactical units and intelligence teams. “I visited the crime scene myself on 21 June, and I can now confirm that 22 suspects have been arrested, while six remain at large,” he stated.
The trial opened at Plateau State High Court, Court 10, presided over by Justice Boniface Ngyon. However, legal arguments stalled proceedings when the defence counsel, Garba Pwol, objected to the plea-taking on the basis that two of the accused were minors aged 13 and 17.
Prosecutor S.I. Ikutanwa suggested their names be removed from the charges so the remaining 20 could proceed.
Justice Ngyon adjourned the matter to Friday to allow for an amended charge sheet and ordered all accused to be remanded in police custody.

The CP urged residents, especially youths, to avoid mob justice and report suspicious activity. “We will ensure all involved in this inhuman act face justice,” he declared.
