Police arraign two suspects over arson at Celestial Church (Video)

Two suspects involved in the arson attack at the Celestial Church of Christ, Overcomers Parish, Ajah, Lagos, which occurred on June 2, 2023, have been arraigned at the Yaba Magistrate Court by the Police. The accused individuals are Badmus Bisiriyu, a 49-year-old male, and Seyi Afolabi, a 25-year-old male.

Recall that Freelanews reported how the CCC Worldwide spiritual leader, Rev’d. Oshoffa, had involved police over arson, attempted murder and defamation.

The charge sheet presented in court stated that on the aforementioned date, at around 7:02 a.m., at No 6, Mojeed Adekunle Street, Okera-Nla, Ajah, Lagos State, the defendants, along with others who are still at large, conspired to commit felony. This offense is punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Additionally, the charge sheet alleged that Badmus Bisiriyu, along with others who are still at large, stole a cow worth Seven Hundred Thousand Naira (N700,000) belonging to the Celestial Church of Christ, Overcomers Parish, Ajah, Lagos, on the same day and location. This act is an offense punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Furthermore, Seyi Afolabi, along with others who are still at large, is accused of setting the Celestial Church of Christ, Overcomers Parish, Ajah, Lagos, ablaze on June 2, 2023, at approximately 7:02 a.m. This act is an offense punishable under Section 230 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

On Friday, August 18, 2023, the two suspects were arraigned before Magistrate (Mrs) Olatubosun at the Yaba Magistrate Court. They were granted bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties who must provide proof of eight years of tax payment.

The case has been adjourned until Wednesday, September 20, 2023, for further proceedings, while the remaining suspects involved in the arson attack will be arraigned at a later date.
