The call was made by Professor Olumide Adewale, a Computing expert from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, during a lecture held at McPherson University, Ogun State.
Speaking on the theme “Innovating the Digital Future: Trends in Computing Technology,” Professor Adewale described 6G as a technological leap that will offer speeds up to 100 times faster than current 5G networks.
He emphasised the network’s role in advancing real-time, immersive 3D environments like the metaverse and expanding capabilities in fields such as education, e-commerce, and healthcare.
“These networks are anticipated to emerge by the conclusion of this decade, promising substantial improvement in communication speed,” he said.
“The advent of 6G will further facilitate the evolution of the metaverse, bringing us closer to the realisation of real-time, customised 3D environments.”
According to him, the future of digital connectivity will not only reshape how people communicate but also how they interact with computers, data, and their surrounding environments.
He urged students to embrace adaptability, ethics, and collaborative skills to thrive in this evolving technological space.
“These principles for a prosperous digital future act as beacons guiding us on our journey ahead,” he added.
Acting Dean of the Computing Department, Dr Emmanuel Ibam, said the university hosted the lecture to bridge academic learning with real-world experience.
He revealed that a student of McPherson University had won a \$5,000 grant in 2024, and another lecturer had secured an international placement.
