Railway Transformation in Nigeria gets Rotary’s praise as NRC under Dr. Opeifa revitalizes rail services, fosters vocational training, and boosts national development
Railway Transformation in Nigeria has taken center stage, earning high praise from Rotary International District 9112 for its impactful revitalization of the country’s railway system.

During a courtesy visit on July 22, 2025, led by District Governor Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin, the Rotary team lauded NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, for his visionary leadership.
The delegation was welcomed warmly at the NRC Headquarters and taken on a guided tour of key facilities, including the Running Shed and the Railway Technical Institute.
The team observed significant improvements and modern training programs in fields such as electrical photovoltaics, machine operations, and fashion.
The District Governor highlighted Rotary’s keen interest in vocational training and national development and proposed creating a Rotary Hub within the NRC.
The group later experienced a ride on the Lagos Mass Transit Train, with the Governor expressing heartfelt admiration for the changes since his last ride in 1986.
Dr. Opeifa, a Past President of Rotary Club Agege, reaffirmed NRC’s commitment to collaboration.
He outlined projects under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, such as reconnecting major rail lines, expanding freight services, and partnering with state governments.
He emphasized, “If railway dies, Nigeria’s economy will grind to zero.”
