The Federal Government has announced an ambitious plan to generate over two million jobs through this flagship initiative, designed to bridge the nation’s housing deficit while stimulating economic growth.
Revealing the details during a meeting with the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, outlined the scope: 100 affordable housing units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
This approach targets low-income earners, the unemployed, vulnerable groups, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is projected to create 27 jobs per site across 77,400 locations—translating to 25 people per job role.
The initiative will be funded by the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, pending presidential approval of its foundational documents.
Minister Dangiwa highlighted progress on multiple sites, including projects in Abuja, Kano, and Lagos. Despite minor delays in road access construction, he confirmed many projects were nearing completion.
House subscriptions have already begun, allowing developers to begin recouping investments.
Dangiwa emphasized housing must be prioritized in national funding and assured that a National Social Housing Fund bill will soon follow.
Chairman Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa praised the effort, pledging the House Committee’s full support. “We are ready to work harmoniously to deliver real impact,” he stated.
