The Rivers Political Elders and Leaders Forum has called on residents of Rivers State to exercise their civil rights by participating in the upcoming local government council election.
Chief Celestine Omehia, a former governor of the state, made this appeal during a visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt.
Omehia highlighted that voting is a fundamental right, urging every resident to participate without fear. He reassured citizens that the election body is responsible for ensuring a fair process, allowing voters to elect leaders at the grassroots level. Omehia criticised those opposing the election, stating they do not have the state’s welfare at heart.
The former governor stressed the importance of democratic principles, unity, and peace for the continued development of Rivers State.
He concluded by expressing the hope that past leaders of the state would be pleased to see Rivers thrive in peace and unity.
