SCGN will mark 20 years promoting governance with a landmark conference on ethical leadership, disruption, and sustainability this October in Lagos

The 20th Anniversary Corporate Governance Conference, hosted by the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN), will take place on Wednesday, 9 October 2025 at 10 AM in Lagos.

As global institutions face rising disruption and calls for accountability, SCGN is convening thought leaders, regulators, and board executives to reflect on Nigeria’s governance journey—and chart a bold path forward.

Themed “Strengthening Ethical Governance in a Disrupted World: Reflections on the Governance Journey for a Sustainable Future,” the conference will examine how governance principles can help organisations remain adaptive, transparent, and future-ready.

SCGN

Dr. Omobola Johnson, former Minister of Communication Technology, will deliver the keynote, exploring ethical leadership in a rapidly changing world. She will be joined by:

  • Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General, SEC Nigeria
  • Mr. Temi Popoola, Group MD/CEO, NGX Group
  • Dr. Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary/CEO, FRCN

The conference will feature a high-level panel discussion moderated by Mr. Adedayo Amzat, CFA, GMD of Zedcrest Group, with insights from:

  • Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chair, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy & Tax Reforms
  • Ms. Kim Anderson, CEO, Leadright Consultant (South Africa)
  • Mrs. Yeside Kazeem, Director, Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance
  • Ms. Omolola Oloworanran, DG, PenCom
  • Mrs. Suzanne Iroche, Chairperson, Coronation Life Assurance Ltd

Panel discussions will tackle fiscal reforms, regulatory compliance, board effectiveness, cross-border challenges, and governance’s critical role in national economic transformation.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mrs. Chioma Mordi, CEO of SCGN, said: “For 20 years, SCGN has remained steadfast in promoting ethical governance in Nigeria. This anniversary conference is not just a celebration—it’s a call to action for boards, regulators, and businesses to embrace accountability and resilience in a rapidly changing world.”

A highlight of the 2025 conference will be the inaugural Corporate Governance Awards, recognising individuals and organisations who have championed innovation, transparency, and sustainable business practices across sectors.

Mr. Muhammad Ahmad, President of SCGN, added: “Our 20th Anniversary Conference is a platform for charting the future of governance in Nigeria. We’re bringing together some of the most influential voices to explore practical insights on trust, resilience, and sustainable leadership. Global themes like AI and ESG will also shape the dialogue—because boardrooms must evolve with the world.”

Through its keynotes, panels, and sector-wide engagements, the conference will provide directors, executives, and governance professionals with actionable strategies to embed integrity and long-term trust into the core of their institutions.
