Senator Husain pledges brighter future for Osun as he honours legacy of June 12

Senator Mudashiru Husain honours the legacy of June 12 and pledges a new era of people-focused leadership for Osun State

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]enator Mudashiru Oyetunde Husain has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering a better Osun as he joined millions of Nigerians to mark June 12, a date that symbolises Nigeria’s enduring fight for democracy and justice.

Reflecting on the 1993 presidential election—widely regarded as Nigeria’s fairest—Senator Husain paid tribute to the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, whose overwhelming electoral victory was annulled by the military regime, sparking years of resistance, repression, and eventual political rebirth.

In his Democracy Day message, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopeful said Osun’s progress must be anchored on the same democratic ideals June 12 represents.

“Democracy is not a one-day event; it is a covenant of service. June 12 reminds us of that covenant. My promise to Osun is rooted in Irorun De, a future of comfort built on justice, competence, and compassion,” Senator Husain declared.

A former senator for Osun West and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Husain’s political track record is rooted in grassroots engagement and developmental impact.

During his previous tenure, he was instrumental in advancing infrastructure, agriculture, health care, and education across the state.

Democracy is not a one-day event; it is a covenant of service. June 12 reminds us of that covenant. My promise to Osun is rooted in Irorun De, a future of comfort built on justice, competence, and compassion.

He also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose political journey was forged in the June 12 struggle, notably as a member of NADECO, the pro-democracy coalition that challenged the military dictatorship in the 1990s.

Senator Husain praised Tinubu’s legacy in institutionalising June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day—a milestone that was first recognised in Lagos State and later adopted nationally in 2018.

Looking ahead to Osun’s next democratic transition, Senator Husain said his campaign is built on local solutions, economic renewal, and inclusive governance.

His Irorun De mantra—which translates to “comfort has come”—has become a rallying cry for voters seeking relief from hardship and renewed development.

He pledged reforms in education, security, job creation, and community empowerment, assuring residents that his leadership would be both people-driven and result-oriented.

As Osun gears up for a critical political season, Senator Husain’s message taps into the enduring relevance of June 12—not just as a date on the calendar, but as a call to action for leaders to uphold the principles of justice, transparency, and service.
