THE Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has expressed displeasure with the location of some National Assembly members’ constituency projects in the houses of politicians in Ekiti State.
ICPC Chief Superintendent in charge of Tracking Programmes in Ekiti State, Azeez Lawal, said his team also discovered some shoddily executed projects in the state, adding, “The contractors that handled such jobs would be ordered back to site or prosecuted.”
Lawal, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Thursday during the ongoing second phase of tracking of National Assembly members’ constituency projects for 2016, 2017 and 2018 across the 16 council areas of the state by the commission, advised contractors to always do their jobs as prescribed to avoid sanctions.
He said, “From what we have seen so far, some of the jobs were well done and some were not properly done. Where there are infractions, the contractors will face the music. The sanction is to order the contractors back to the site to make necessary amend or be taken to the courts for prosecution.”
Action Aids Nigeria Social Mobilisation Manager, Wale Adeduntan, who was part of the constituency projects tracking team, lamented that constituents, who should be the beneficiaries of constituency projects, were being deprived of the benefits of the government intervention.
