In a statement on Thursday, issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu joined Jonathan’s family, friends, and political associates in celebrating the former leader.
“President Tinubu notes the simplicity and humility that define Dr Jonathan’s style of leadership, particularly his demonstration of statesmanship during the 2015 presidential election, which strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and gave the nation a pride of place,” the statement read.
Reflecting on their past engagements, Tinubu acknowledged the support and counsel that contributed to Jonathan’s political rise, especially around 2010 and in the lead-up to the 2011 presidential election.
“President Tinubu believes Dr Jonathan’s statesmanship has continued to inspire many leaders, even as he takes up challenging international diplomatic responsibilities, particularly in promoting democratic culture and values in Africa,” the statement added.
