Donald Trump has ruled out a second US presidential debate with Kamala Harris, rejecting Fox News’ proposal for a candidate showdown later this month.
Despite being in a tight race for the White House, Trump dismissed the idea, citing early voting and the absence of new issues to discuss.
In a post on Truth Social, the former president wrote, “It is very late in the process, (early) voting has already begun — there will be no rematch!”
Trump added that Harris would not deviate from President Joe Biden’s policies, making further debate unnecessary.
The two candidates had previously faced off in a September debate hosted by ABC News, but plans for a second debate, which Harris had expressed interest in, never materialised.
Harris had also challenged Trump to a debate hosted by CNN on October 23, but Trump declined. Trump claimed Harris had backed out of a previous debate offered by Fox News, though the Harris campaign never officially accepted the proposal.
Fox News offered another chance for a debate between Harris and Trump, suggesting October 24 or 27, but Trump’s latest statements suggest no further debates will take place before the election on November 5.
The refusal of additional debates has become a talking point, especially given the heated nature of their September face-off.
As election day approaches, both candidates are focusing on their final campaign pushes without another debate to sway undecided voters.
