Held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the Landmark Events Centre in Lagos, the inspiring ceremony brought together graduates from Nigeria and other African countries where UBA operates.
The event marked a new chapter for the participants, each of whom completed a rigorous six-month journey of training, mentorship, and leadership development.
UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, described the graduates as “lions and lionesses,” symbolising the strength and potential of Africa’s youth.
He reaffirmed the bank’s unwavering belief that UBA Youth Empowerment is vital to driving the continent’s growth.
“We are happy to have you as part of this tribe,” Elumelu said. “At UBA, we believe in the transformative power of young people.
This programme was designed to pass the baton of knowledge and experience to the next generation. I started just like you, fresh out of university, and I am pleased that UBA continues to create such opportunities.”
Echoing this sentiment, Deputy Group Managing Director, Chukwuma Nweke, who represented the Group Managing Director, Oliver Alawuba, described the event as a celebration of potential and purpose.
“This ceremony celebrates potential, perseverance, and purpose,” Nweke said. “You are not just graduates; you are the next generation of innovators and leaders who will define Africa’s future.
The GMAP reflects our belief that Africa’s destiny will be shaped by capable and courageous leaders.”
Since its inception three years ago, the GMAP initiative has produced over 4,000 graduates across Africa.
The programme blends classroom learning with digital simulations, field assignments, and mentorship from senior executives—an empowering mix that prepares participants for leadership roles within the bank.
The 700 new inductees now join UBA’s vibrant workforce of over 25,000 employees, charged with driving innovation in technology, customer experience, and sustainability.
As one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, UBA continues to lead in financial inclusion and digital banking,
serving more than 45 million customers across 20 African countries and in key international markets such as the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
