Two officials of the Ebonyi State government, a commissioner and principal secretary who tested positive for COVID-19, on Monday have been discharged.

The patients, Prof. Ogbonnaya Chukwu who is the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development and Mr. Clement Nweke Principal Secretary to the Governor tested positive to the virus recently and were quarantined at the virology center located at Federal Medical Center, FTHA 2 Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Recall that the governor, David Umahi had as a result of the development, shut down the government house offices including the offices of the affected persons for seven days.

The Governor also directed staff working under both officials to proceed on immediate self-isolation to avert the spread of the virus.

However, the two officials are now tested negative for the virus and have gone home from the hospital.

Speaking to Journalists, during their discharge from the virology center; the principal secretary, Mr. Nweke noted that his contraction of the virus remains a mystery to him.

He narrated how he got sick to the extent that the medical team stabilized him with oxygen when he couldn’t breathe.

He also debunked rumours making the rounds in the state that some members of his family were affected, especially his younger brother Prof. Eugene Nweke who is the Dean of the postgraduate school, Ebonyi State University Abakaliki.

He explained that his brother was tested by the medical team and his result returned negative.

While speaking to Journalists, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Prof. Ogbonnaya Chukwu on his part confirmed that his wife and his son tested positive for the virus but thanked God that they have now all recovered.
