University of Ilorin convocation hosts Babatunde Fashola as lecturer and President Tinubu for project commissioning during week-long event
University of Ilorin convocation ceremonies for 2025 will feature former Lagos Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), delivering the 40th Convocation Lecture, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is billed to commission key infrastructural projects on campus.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, on Thursday. The event, which marks a milestone in the university’s academic journey, will run from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Fashola is expected to speak on the topic, “The Gen-Z Playbook: Navigating Work and the Real World” at the University Auditorium on Wednesday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m.
His lecture is anticipated to offer powerful insights on generational shifts in employment, innovation, and adaptability.
Alfanla also confirmed that President Tinubu will arrive on Thursday, October 23, to commission newly completed capital projects.
“The projects are a testament to our institution’s rapid transformation and growth,” the Registrar stated.
The University of Ilorin convocation will include several activities such as religious services, a convocation play, and merit award presentations.
A Special Juma’at Service will open the week at the University Central Mosque on October 17, followed by a Christian Thanksgiving at the Chapel of the Light on Sunday, October 19.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), will host a World Press Conference on Monday, October 20, where he will outline institutional achievements and share future plans.
As part of the celebrations, the Convocation Play titled “Joromi” will be performed on October 21 at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre, while the graduation ceremonies will be held in two parts across October 22 and 23 for undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma graduands.
The university will also invest Emeritus Professors, honour staff achievements through Merit Awards, and host a Convocation Luncheon to cap the formal proceedings.
The week will close with another Special Juma’at Prayer on Friday, October 24, and a final Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 26, both at 9:00 a.m.

Assuring the public of smooth operations, Alfanla stated, “Adequate logistics and security arrangements have been made. We welcome all guests and urge decorum throughout the celebrations.”
